Guitar In A Nutshell Review

by John Sizemore

guitar in a nutshell
It is not very often that a new online guitar course comes along that I am all that impressed with.  Most of the high quality online guitar courses offer pretty much the same thing these days.  They for the most part teach the basic fundamentals, have special tools, chord libraries and qualified instructors.  However, there has become available some beginning guitar lessons that I have been extremely impressed with.  That is “Guitar In A Nutshell”.

A Completely Different Style Of Teaching

“there are a lot of beginning guitarist that just want to start playing right away”

Guitar In A Nutshell beginning guitar lessons offer something completely different from the guitar lessons that I’ve reviewed in the past.  These lessons are geared especially toward the beginning frustrated guitarist that has tried everything out there and is not quite getting it.  You see, there are a lot of beginning guitarist that just want to start playing right away.  Then they realize how difficult it is to get their fingers to play the chords, how painful it can be until calluses are developed and they give up.  Many guitar lessons out there promise to get you playing songs right away.  But, these beginning guitar lessons by Guitar In A Nutshell deliver!

The instructor uses some unique methods that I wasn’t even aware of and I’ve been playing and teaching for more than 20 years.  I always thought that if you could teach a student to smoothly switch between about 5 chords, they would most definitely move on to more advanced lessons without quitting.  Well, this is true.  But, getting my students to do this was quite difficult to say the least.  I would basically be teaching the CAGED technique (switching between C, A, G, E & D) which is a great technique.  But, Guitar In a Nutshell has introduced us to a new method called “The Connector Method”.

The Connector Method

“This is by far the best technique I’ve seen to date”

The connector method uses a series of un-traditional fingerings.  These methods are smoother, easier and more simple when switching chords.  Along with learning today’s most popular songs to keep the students interested, the instructor for Guitar In A Nutshell uses certain fingers as what he calls anchors, that make it very easy to switch between chords without the “dreaded pause” effect.  This is by far the best technique I’ve seen to date.  I am in the process of using some of his methods with my students with excellent results.

I’m a true believer that if you practice about 15min/day switching between chords with just down strums and playing  basic songs, most students will continue enjoying and playing the guitar.  Well, Guitar In A Nutshell has put a whole new spin on things, and as I can see, it is no wonder his guitar lessons are becoming the most popular today.

Go a head and check out some of his free lessons below.  They are truly the best beginning guitar lessons I’ve seen to date! →
