Jason Aldean | My Kinda Party

This song only has 4 chords and has a real rock and roll feel to it. However, it does have a barre chord and a pretty intermediate strumming pattern that may not suit the beginner. As I’ve said many times before…. You can learn any song if you put your mind to it. But, it could end up frustrating you and we don’t want that! ;)

At this time this song ranks number 6 on the Country Billboard Charts and has stayed there for quite some time.

Here Julie from Mahalo.com gives you a really basic lesson on how to play this song.

Thompson Square | Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not

Here’s a very sweet song written by a husband and wife. The song was written and released in 2010 and was nominated for a Grammy in 2011. The song went platnum in November of 2011. I just love this one! A beginner should be able to pick it up fairly easily, especially if you play the chords as indicated

Here Jen from Mahalo.com teaches the song how it’s played originally. You should challenge yourself to play all the accents and strumming patterns that she demonstrates here. However, it’s not necessary to play the song.

Blake Shelton | Honey Bee

Here is another great song to help you with switching between barre chords and open chords. This one will ease you into barre chords since there is only one. If you’re getting pretty good with switching chords… This should be a minor transition. I do want to stress that you should have all your open chords down before you attempt barre chords. This will minimize your frustration. It never hurts to give it a try though ;)

Here Jen from Mahalo.com teaches you the exact way Blake Shelton plays the song. So, get ready to have some fun and leave your comments if you need help with anything. :)

Sara Evans | A Little Bit Stronger

This is a great song for intermediate players. However, beginners can work at it and probably could get it down fairly fast.

One of the techniques you will already need to know are: hammer-ons & pull-offs. Hammer ons are striking the string and then hammering your finger down on the string. Don’t let the term hammer on intimidate you. You aren’t actually applying any more pressure than normal you’re just placing your finger on the intended fret immediately after striking the string. Now, pull-offs are the opposite. You will strike the string and then immediately lift your finger off. It’s a technique that will be fun for beginners to perfect.

Jason Aldean | Dirt Road Anthem

Are you looking for a little more of a challenging song? Well, this song has the barre chord you’ve been looking for! Just kidding ;) This song is essentially easy. But, it does have that dreaded barre chord.

As for strumming this one will be a little more difficult as well. The good news is there are only 4 chords in the whole song. What can make it more difficult for beginners are the quick chord changes you’ll be making.
