Let me inform you about the best deal I ever made. Flashback to 1976- whereas enjoying at a college town in the American Midwest, I found a small music retailer that was in the middle of their ‘Going Out Of Enterprise’ sale.
So after all, I made a decision to see what they had. Lo and behold, at the very back of the store, hanging on the wall I noticed a model new 1976 Gibson Flying V. The price? $350 with the case. I didn’t understand it on the time- $350 nonetheless appeared like a pretty hefty sum of money to spend for any electrical guitar, not less than for me- however that $350 ended up being one of the best cash that I ever spent. At the moment, that vintage V goes for around $4,000 on eBay.

I’ll tell you this up front- I LOVE giging live. Don’t get me unsuitable- I’m primarily a recording artist these days, with solely very occasional alternatives to grace a stage. But that hasn’t dimmed the electrical energy of enjoying my lead guitar solos reside and loud for all the world to see and hear.
For many of the late-70’s eighty’s and early ninety’s I used to be a touring lead guitarist is a heavy steel rock band within the American Midwest. A lot of the expertise of being on the highway was overrated, and in fact a lot of it fairly sucked- however for that three or four hours you’re onstage, the PA and lights are up, and a wildly respect crowd stands before you, there is simply nothing better on planet Earth in my humble opinion.

I’ve been attracted to guitar shredding and speed-induced virtuosity for most of my life. Virtually without exception, I’ve gravitated to the likes of Hendrix, Michael Schenker, Buckethead, and Paul Gilbert. And in each case, blazing hot-n-quick guitar solo work was on the center of the attraction. Most of the time (for me, at the very least), the joys is in listening in open-mouthed awe to the guitarist’s reward of cleanly running by his private set of scales at 1,000 kph. To today, I can’t get enough of this.

There aren’t a lot of things I recall that well from the 1980s and early 90′s – and in some ways that might be a good thing. In terms of music, I was just getting rid of my cassette collection and loading up on CDs.
One of my favorite CDs from that era was Steve Vai’s Passion and Warfare. So when I got the news release from Ibanez recently, it was like a blast from the past.
