Before you “go electric” and spend your money let me offer you a couple of tips…
1) The primary question you should ask yourself is:
“Why do I want to learn electric guitar?”
If the answer is because electric guitars are simpler to learn than acoustic guitars, you might want to reconsider that. Why? Because playing electric guitar requires all the technique you need to play an acoustic guitar PLUS the ability to be in command of all the different sounds that an electric instrument can produce.
So, if you are shopping around, my first tip is to buy a basic model.

Are you tired of chasing people to get gigs for your group?
If you are like me, you love playing gigs and are not so fond of chasing people to book your performances. Whether you are new to the music business or are an expert musician with tons of experience in the industry, it can be tiring and, sometimes, frustrating, trying to book your performances going to each restaurant, cafe or even professional venue and directly asking managers if they can give you a gig. In my experience, this approach weakens you in the long run and does very little to build solid, long lasting relationships.

Believe me when I say that once you achieve your guitar playing goals, you will have so much fun playing the guitar and you will be playing the songs that you want.
