I would have to say that most guitar sites don’t really show the beginning guitar player where to start. Plus, even if they do give them a starting point… They don’t say why? Hopefully after you read this post you’ll understand why almost every guitar teacher starts you out playing open chords.

I know I’ve touched on this several times before. But, open chords are really the foundation of guitar. Just like learning a second language there’s always a starting point. Learning open chords first help you in a few different areas:
