I’m having a hard time strumming cause i’m left handed, but then I will still try hard until I master each of these. If only I could afford a left handed guitar
btw Thanks for this awesome website.
Hi Shamell,
This is probably the most difficult part for beginners. You’ll get the chords & strumming down. But, you just can’t seem to put them together. Here’s a post I wrote about the subject. Hope it helps.
Putting Together Guitar Chord Changes & Strumming
I find it hard to move from chord to chord without dropping a beat.
That is correct Cody. It can be difficult at first to just hit the correct strings when strumming. Especially the open D chord since you’re only hitting 4 of the strings. However, it gets easier over time and it will just come natural. You won’t even think about it with repetition.
So, to be clear on previous comments, the basic chords I learned in a previous video (More specifically for my comment : A and E), A Requires you hit 5 of 6 strings, where as E requires you to hit all 6, I hit the amount of strings required for the chord, and not the strumming pattern itself?
Hi Thomas,
You always want to hit the strings indicated on the chord chart marked with “o” . Take a look at lesson #6 again. I know this can be difficult. It just takes practice. Make sure that you perform this very slowly and speed up the temp gradually. You don’t want to start any bad habits. After practicing this over and over it will become a lot easier.
ON STRUMMING THE UP STRUM HOW MANY STRINGS HSOULD YOU HIT.
sTRUMMING IS BY FAR MY FAVORITE PART. i THINK THAT TO CHANGE CHORDS FROM ONE CHORD TO THE NEXT IS HARDER…
Yes. Strumming can be difficult at first. It’s also the most important. It’s what gives a song it’s rhythm. Just make sure you use some kind of timing device. Either tap your foot or use a metronome. Timing is everything.
Now, you will get this over time. It starts to become natural. So just keep strumming and learn as many strums as you can.
I’m not that good in “strumming”,I mean I know all the chords, and I’m dying how to learn to strum well.:( I think strumming is the hardest part to do when your playing a guitar.
